It is administratively fragmented, reaching into Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Gateshead and 3 other authorities.

Water supply across NE

All 64 NE districts are supplied by Northumbrian Water, which is notable at this size: an area with this many districts usually crosses at least one supply boundary, and this one does not.

The districts are wildly uneven: NE61 holds 1,550 postcodes around Morpeth and NE85 holds 4, a ratio of about 388 to one. They divide into 219 sectors.
